Hawaiian Lomilomi Massage

Lomilomi massage is different from other forms of massage as it only about 25% technique and about 75% attitude and reverence of the practitioner that makes this healing art one of the most profound and effective bodywork modalities.

Lomilomi means ‘loving hands’ and refers to the spirit of ‘Aloha’ in which the session is undertaken. The Hawaiian’s believe that all illness (physical or mental) is a result of stress and the way to health is to relieve the stress that the person may be encountering.

With this as the intention of the healing session the practitioner’s aim is to turn the client into a very relaxed physical ‘mush’ using the hands and forearms to all areas of the body to facilitate the natural healing ability of the human body.

What to expect from a session with Rohan James

I conduct Hawaiian Lomilomi healing sessions from:

Fusion Hot Yoga studio in Norman Park, Brisbane, Australia and

My Health Yoga studio in New Farm, Brisbane, Australia.

Each session begins with an initial consultation. In this time the client may tell of any of their life’s goings on, or not. It can be similar to a counselling session, however not so formal; in fact it is like chatting to a friend. This helps me to understand where the client is at and allows them to clarify any issues they may have or wish to resolve.

Once I have a clear sign that the client is ready for the body work, I will ask the client to undress and lie on the table under a sarong that will be used for the draping. While the client does this I leave the room to prepare myself for the session using breathing exercises and by calling in my guides for assistance.

The Hawaiin Lomilomi Massage

The first and most unusual parts of Lomilomi is that the client lies directly on the vinyl of the treatment table and the room is heated to a very warm temperature. This allows for uninterrupted full body and under body strokes while maintaining the body heat of the client.

The massage begins with me placing my hands on the client’s body on top of the sarong, initially in silence to make connection with the client’s higher self and then I may say something aloud, may request that the client set their own intention or may not say anything at all.

It is during this time that I will be given guidance as to what is required for the client at that time and then the massage will begin.

The strokes are with hands and forearms to all areas of the body whilst maintaining the modesty of the client with draping. It is very important that the whole body is massaged because each and every cell, organ and body part has its own soul intelligence and if areas are missed they will feel neglected and may request attention in other ways e.g. illness.

I am guided to the areas and strokes required during the session which may also include gentle stretching of the joints and movement of the limbs. The strokes are usually rhythmical and with the intensity of the focus and the intent of each stroke the sensations experienced by the client may be like “floating on a cloud” or “rocking gently in the sea”.

Both hands and forearms are used simultaneously and almost always on different parts of the body. This is important because the conscious mind finds it very difficult to focus on two things at once so it tends to “give in” and allow the much deeper healing to take place on a subconscious level.

Approximately half the session is performed with the client face down and half facing up although this may vary from session to session. When guided, I may use salt water for cleansing of the skin and aura.

De-brief

At the completion of the session, there is a “de-brief” and I will inform the client of any anything else that may need to be brought to their attention.

The entire Lomilomi session is conducted in a spirit of “Aloha”; that being love and respect for the divine within each individual and because of this the client leaves feeling completely nurtured by the experience.
